Canberra hosts Australia’s first fixed-site health and drug checking service. It allows individuals to have their substances chemically analyzed anonymously to look for lethal cutting agents (like fentanyl or nitazenes) before administration.

Location: Inside the City Community Health Centre, 1 Moore Street, Canberra City.
What they do: Use high-tech laboratory equipment (FTIR spectrometers and mass spectrometry) to tell you exactly what is in a sample. They also offer completely free, confidential health consultations with nurses and peer workers.www.cahma.org.au

Peer Advocacy & Drop-In Centers (CAHMA)

When navigating substance use or trying to access the healthcare system without being judged, peer-led organizations are the safest space.

Service: CAHMA (Canberra Alliance for Harm Minimisation and Advocacy)
Location: Shop 17, Churches Centre, 54 Benjamin Way, Belconnen.
Operating Hours: Drop-in center open Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
What they do: Run entirely by people with lived experience. They provide individual advocacy, peer treatment support, case management, and a weekly health clinic (Wednesdays 10 AM – 2 PM) with certified doctors and nurses.

Sterile Equipment & Overdose Reversal (NSPs & Naloxone)

If people choose to administer substances via injection, using 100% sterile equipment is the only way to prevent severe vein damage, abscesses, and blood-borne viruses (like Hep C and HIV). Furthermore, Naloxone (an easy-to-use nasal spray that instantly reverses an opioid overdose) is completely free to access.

24/7 Vending Machines

Outside ACT Community Health Centres (Civic and Phillip)Small fee. Automatic vending machines dispensing "4-packs" (sterile needles, syringes, swabs, water, and disposal container).

Free Naloxone Kits

Available on-demand at CAHMA (Belconnen) & Directions Health100% Free. No prescription needed. Available as simple nasal spray (Nyxoid) to keep someone breathing during an overdose.
